A password-protected directory or area is a folder which could be accessed only if a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people can see its content. This option can be used for the primary folder of a particular site or only for a specific subfolder depending on your needs. As an example, when you are building a new site and you do not want people to see it before it is ready, you might want to limit the access to it as a whole, and if you would like only some people to be able to access certain files, you could password-protect only a certain folder, while the other parts of the Internet site can be seen by everybody. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear when the login details the visitor types in aren't right. Even a direct link to a file will not work if any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area shall take no more than a couple of mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites inside a cloud hosting account with our company. You shall not need to do anything complicated - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it should be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is activated. If you wish to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the Control Panel in which you have enabled it.
